HCM City hits back at Omicron case rumours

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City on December 27 silenced rumours surfacing on social media that a local resident had contracted the new variant Omicron following a RT-PCR test at FV Hospital.

This was incorrect information and the positive COVID-19 test certificate granted by FV Hospital is not genuine, said an official of the HCM City Department of Health.

A representative of FV Hospital also confirmed that was fake news, noting the hospital has only issued negative PCR test certificates.

According to the HCM City Center for Disease Control, any variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus must be determined through genome sequencing, not a PCR test.

The HCM City Pasteur Institute is the only facility in the south that can conduct genome sequencing for COVID-19 patients to identify any new variant.

HCM City has tightened COVID-19 prevention measures in order to nip in the bud the emergence of the new variant Omicron in the locality.

To date no Omicron cases have been detected in the southern metropolis, as well as in Vietnam.
