Hanoi to soon suspend catering services as COVID-19 cases rise

VOV.VN - The Hanoi capital will suspend catering services at restaurants and fast-food outlets, starting at 12.00am on May 25, in an effort to slow the spread of the SARS-CoV- 2 virus.

Takeaways will be encouraged instead of dishes on offer at sites, according to an urgent telegram released by the local administration on May 24 evening.

Other non-essential services such as barbers’ and hairdressers’ are required to temporarily close the door at the same time.

All parties and outdoor activities of large gatherings, including entertainment and physical exercises at parks, botanic gardens and other public venues will be postponed.

In its urgent telegram, the local administration said the latest COVID-19 outbreak is evolving in a complicated and unpredictable manner. A cluster of infection of unknown origin has been detected at blocks of apartments, crowded State agencies and companies.

It requested Vingroup, T&T Group and other organizations and businesses actively conduct COVID-19 tests for residents and employees under their management.

The Hanoi Centre for Diseases Control (CDC) on May 24 announced a cluster of 15 related infections at T&T Group in Hoan Kiem district. Accordingly, 10 employees work for T&T, four members of a family live at Times City, a block of apartments for high-income earners, and an employee works for the National General Department of Taxation.

The Hanoi CDC iin the afternoon also announced an additional two cases closely tied to the COVID-19 outbreak at the T&T Group.

Except for more than 100 cases confirmed at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the K Cancer Hospital, the capital city has recorded 129 cases since the virus recurred in late April.
