Hai Phong City police arrest Chinese VAT fraud fugitive for deportation

VOV.VN - Hai Phong City police have arrested and handed over Li Ye, a 41-year-old Chinese national wanted by Shanghai police for value-added tax (VAT) invoice forgery, after he illegally entered Vietnam to evade prosecution.

Officers from the Hai Phong Immigration Office identified Li as an illegal entrant hiding in Do Son ward and coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security's Department of Foreign Relations to verify his background with Chinese authorities.

Following an official diplomatic note from the Chinese Embassy confirming his wanted status, Hai Phong City Police teamed up with Do Son ward police to arrest Li on July 20. Under interrogation, Li admitted to entering Vietnam illegally to escape law enforcement in Shanghai.

On July 31, the Hai Phong Immigration Office, alongside the Ministry of Public Security and border guards at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in Lang Son Province, formally handed Li over to Chinese police safely in full compliance with legal procedures.
