Greece looks to stronger labour cooperation with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Greece are stepping up discussions on labour cooperation as both sides move toward a labour cooperation agreement to facilitate the employment of Vietnamese workers in Greece.
On July 2, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong, together with ASEAN ambassadors to Greece, had a working session with Greek Minister for Migration and Asylum Athanasios Plevris to discuss ways to advance labour cooperation between Greece and Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries with diplomatic missions in Athens.
Welcoming ambassadors and representatives from Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia, Plevris said Greece hopes to further boost labour cooperation with ASEAN member states to meet labour demand and support economic growth.
The early signing of labour agreements will help better protect the interests of both workers and employers, while also supporting efforts to manage migration challenges, one of the Greek government’s priorities as well as that of the European Union, following the entry into force of the EU’s new Pact on Migration and Asylum in June, Plevris added.
At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong said that following her meeting with Plevris in March, the Vietnamese Embassy had worked with relevant agencies in Vietnam regarding Greece’s priorities in labour cooperation with Vietnam.
She expressed hope that both sides will continue discussions and move toward the early signing of a labour cooperation agreement to facilitate the employment of Vietnamese workers in Greece, thereby contributing to more practical and effective bilateral cooperation.
Plevris agreed with the proposal and instructed relevant agencies to continue close coordination with Vietnam and other ASEAN member states to facilitate the early signing of labour agreements.
According to statistics from Greece’s Migration and Asylum Ministry, around 1,700 Vietnamese workers currently hold residence permits in Greece.
