French students learn about Vietnamese relations with France, EU

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in France and the Society for East Asian Affairs co-organised a seminar on April 13 to help French students gain greater insights into Vietnamese relations with both France and the European Union.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang underscored the importance of Vietnam’s relations with France and the EU as part of the country’s overall foreign policy, as well as its Doi Moi (Renewal) process and wider international integration.

The diplomat emphasised that France and Vietnam sides have developed a time-honoured bond through decades and have become reliable partners.

France is not only a strategic partner, but also one of the most important partners for Vietnam in Europe and in the international arena overall, Thang said.

The bilateral ties have recorded several major important achievements across multiple fields, from politics-diplomacy to trade, investment, development co-operation, education and training, science and technology, he added.

According to the diplomat, both countries have also constantly collaborated in a bid to deal with global and regional challenges, such as peacekeeping operations, sustainable development, response to climate change, and COVID-19 pandemic prevention.

With regard to Vietnam-EU relations, the Ambassador affirmed that the bloc is one of Vietnam’s most important partners in the spheres of politics-diplomacy and economics, as well as in co-operating in regional and international issues.

Both sides have recently signed several important agreements, which have gone on to lay the foundations for an ever-growing partnership, including the EU-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement (PCA) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

During the event, French students raised questions regarding regional and international political issues, from the East Sea to co-operation mechanisms between Vietnam and France and the EU.

Ambassador Thang used the event as a platform to highlight the country’s independent and self-reliant foreign policy with the goal of becoming a friend and reliable partner to all countries, as well as the policy of settling all disputes by peaceful measures in line with international law.

These moves have contributed to ensuring peace, security, stability, co-operation, and development throughout the region and across the world, he noted.
