Forest rangers keep tracking tiger trace in Quang Binh forest
VOV.VN - Forest rangers have yet to discover any traces of a tiger in the Diu Do forest area of Quang Binh province, central Vietnam, as reported by local residents, said an official of Quang Binh province.
“It takes time to verify the news. Previously camera traps had also been set up in this forest area, but no individual tigers had been spotted. This is also a big question for the authorities,” said Hoang Trong Duc, head of the administration of Truong Son commune, of Quang Ninh district.
Duc quoted forest rangers saying tigers’ natural habitat is very large, but he did not rule out the possibility that an individual tiger may just pass through Diu Do forest, not come there to live.
Nguyen Xuan Que, head of the Quang Ninh District Forest Ranger Department, told plo.vn that after receiving information, his department dispatched forest rangers to work with several residents who had spotted the tiger in the Dieu Do forest area. The forest rangers also went to the location where the tiger was supposed to appear for examination but did not find any traces left by the tiger.
In addition, the agency also coordinated with the Viet Nature Conservation Center (Viet Nature) to continue setting up camera traps to specifically verify information about the case.
“We have not seen signs such as footprints or feces left by tigers. We will continue to travel to the site to gather evidence,” said Que.
Earlier, two local residents sighted a tiger when they went to the forest to collect rattan and pick vegetables for food. An elder in Cau Treo hamlet, Truong Son commune, also confirmed that she heard a tiger roaring near the Dieu Do forest.
