Five earthquakes strike Kon Tum’s Kon Plong district on January 9
VOV.VN - Five consecutive earthquakes hit Kon Plong district in Kon Tum on January 9, with the strongest tremor measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale.
According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, the first earthquake occured at 1:39 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.4 and at a depth of about 8.2 kilometers.
Just five minutes later, a second earthquake hit, with its strongest magnitude reaching 4.2.
Subsequent tremors were recorded with magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 3.4 on the Richter scale.
Experts note that Kon Tum, and particularly Kon Plong, is situated on a small fault line, where earthquakes typically do not exceed a magnitude of 5.0. While earthquakes in this area are frequent, they do not pose a significant risk.
The center also stated that it will continue to provide updates on seismic activity to local authorities and residents, while closely monitoring the situation.
