First repatriation flights for Vietnamese from Ukraine to arrive in Hanoi today
VOV.VN - A large plane of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines that brings home 283 Vietnamese citizens fleeing war zones in Ukraine is expected to land at Noi Bai International Airport late Tuesday morning (March 8).
The Boeing 787 Dreamlliner departed from Noi Bai airport on March 7 to Bucharest (Romania) where hundreds of Vietnamese citizens have been evacuated from Ukraine and are waiting to return to their home.
The flight, the first of its kind to repatriate Vietnamese citizens stranded in Ukraine’s war zones, is due to land at Noi Bai airport before noon on March 8.
The second repatriation flight conducted by Bamboo Airways is expected to bring home 270 returnees from Warsaw (Poland) on March 10.
The returnees will be tested for COVID-19 after landing in Hanoi and will be guided by the authorities to implement medical isolation measures.
The Government earlier approved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ proposal to organize flights to bring home Vietnamese people and their family members amidst escalating tensions in Ukraine. The Ministry of Transport was assigned to arrange these repatriation flights.
Over the past few days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with relevant ministries and agencies in carrying out the evacuation of Vietnamese people and family members from dangerous areas in Ukraine to neighboring countries.
Vietnamese representative offices in Ukraine and neighboring countries have worked alongside local authorities and Vietnamese associations there to actively support the evacuees, directly welcome and arrange accommodation and other essential items for them.
According to preliminary reports, more than 3,500 Vietnamese people have fled Ukraine to Poland, Romania, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and other countries to wait for repatriation flights or move on to a third country.
