First Omicron patient discharged from hospital after negative tests
VOV.VN - H.M. patient who was the first the Omicron case in Vietnam was discharged from Military Central Hospital 108 in Hanoi on January 2 after making full recovery from the disease.
The patient showed no clinical symptoms and last tested negative on January 1, meeting the Ministry of Health’s criteria for returning home for additional medical surveillance, said a representative of the hospital.
H.M. returned from the United Kingdom was then transfered to Military Central Hospital 108 on December 19 where he tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Later genome sequencing showed the patient had contracted the Omicron variant that has now spread to more than 100 countries and territories worldiwide.
The patient was then transfered to a separate isolation area and strictly monitored by doctors to ensure there would be no further infection in the hospital.
This was the first Omicron case in Vietnam. Epidemiologists later detected 14 other similar cases in Quang Nam and five in Ho Chi Minh City.
All of the Omicron cases are in stable health condition, with some testing negative at least twice.
