The European Union (EU) has granted over 62,000 euro to help northern Hai Phong port city better control traffic within the metropolis.

The traffic project aims to provide data for traffic policy-makers and while incorporating environmental protection concerns recommendations from European traffic planning experts.

The scheme, with total finance of 89,000 euro, has placed a particularly emphasis on raising public awareness and encourage greater community involvement in the planning process as a whole.

The scheme was launched after a joint research between the Vietnam Institute for Natural Resources and Marine Environment, the Free University of Brussels and the Thessaly University of Greece. It has been implemented since March and will last until August 2008.
