Dak Lak reports first fatal case of dengue this year

VOV.VN - The Center for Disease Control in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak (CDC Dak Lak) confirmed on July 19 the province’s first dengue-related death this year.

The 19-year-old patient from Buon Ma Thuot developed headaches, persistent high fever, and fatigue on July 7. As symptoms worsened despite treatment, he was admitted to the Central Highlands General Hospital on July 12, and later transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases on July 13.

Doctors diagnosed him with severe dengue shock syndrome on the seventh day, complicated by multiple organ failure, acute liver and kidney failure, myocarditis, and fluid buildup in multiple body cavities. He passed away on July 14.

As of July 18, Dak Lak has recorded more than 1,600 dengue cases, with the highest numbers reported in Buon Ma Thuot, Krong Pac, Cu M’gar, and Buon Don districts.

Health authorities urge residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and seek medical attention promptly if experiencing persistent high fever or other warning signs.
