Dak Lak endures complicated ASF developments

VOV.VN - The past month has seen the African swine fever (ASF) epidemic spread throughout Dak Lak province, reaching a total of 18 wards, communes, and towns in nine districts.

The majority of detected ASF outbreaks have occurred in districts such as Cu M'Gar, Ea Sup, Buon Don, Krong Ana, Krong Pak, Ea Kar, Cu Kuin, Krong Nang, and Buon Ma Thuot city.

October alone witnessed over 40 households from 24 villages report ASF outbreaks.

Due to the recent rise in cases, approximately 390 pigs weighing a total of 23,000 kg have been forced to be culled, a figure that is 2.5 times higher compared to September.

As a means of dealing with the ongoing situation, Dak Lak province‘s Sub-department of Animal Husbandry and Health is in the process of co-operating with relevant agencies and localities in order to boost prevention efforts. This is being done to combat a surge in ASF cases through a better detect process and culling any infected pigs swiftly.

The province is also encouraging households and residents to clean up their breeding facilities and take preventive measures for the purpose of completely eradicating the epidemic locally.

Dak Lak province ranks seventh in terms of the number of pig herds in the country, with a total of more than 840,000 heads.

Since the beginning of this year, ASF has inflicted significant damage on the province's livestock industry, with 1,300 pigs weighing over 66,000 kg being culled.
