Daily infection count increases to 227 after cases surge in hotbeds

VOV.VN - The nation recorded a total of 227 fresh domestic COVID-19 cases, and three imported infections on May 27, with the hotspots of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh continuing to register a growing number of local transmissions at 128 and 52.

Apart from the two foresaid hotspots, Lang Son, Dien Bien, Hai Duong, and Da Nang recorded one each, while Hanoi and HCM City registered seven, and 36 local infections, respectively.

The majority of the newly-detected cases in the two current epicentres are connected to outbreaks located in industrial parks, while the cases in other localities came into close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients.

Notably, all new infections in HCM City are linked to the Revival Ekklesia Mission outbreak that was found a day earlier.

This comes after 24 domestic cases were confirmed during the morning, while an additional 53 cases were recorded at midday.

The country has so far documented over 4,824 cases of local transmission, along with 1,492 imported ones.

Furthermore, May 27 also saw the nation record its 46th death caused by COVID-19, the 11th in the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak that began in late April.

A report released by the ministry’s Medical Examination Administration indicates that the country has seen 2,853 recoveries.

Moreover, amid a new outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City, the municipal administration has decided to shutdown all restaurants and cafes, with only takeaways being permitted, while hair salons will be suspended starting from May 27.

The decision was made following the southern metropolis detecting a COVID-19 cluster among members of the religious Revival Ekklesisa Mission in Go Vap district.

Nguyen Van Nen, the municipal Party Committee Secretary, said the southern city should request medical authorities conduct mass COVID-19 testing to slow the virus spread.

With regard to vaccine supplies moving forward, Deputy Health Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said that according to the announcements made by the COVAX Facility, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer, the country expects to receive at least five million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in June and July. However, amid the current context, the quantity and delivery time may still be subject to change.

In the fourth COVID-19 wave that began a month ago, the country has recorded 3,254 cases across 30 cities and provinces nationwide.

In the face of the increasingly complex nature of the COVID-19 resurgence, the Ministry of Health has called on all citizens to refrain from non-essential outings and avoid public gatherings. People must therefore stay vigilant against the virus and promptly report any suspected illegal immigrants to authorities.
