Daily COVID-19 infections drop as 14 million receive vaccine passports

VOV.VN - A total of 1,550 fresh infections were reported nationwide on May 16, thereby elevating the national tally since the start of the pandemic to 10,698,180, according to the Ministry of Health.

The localities in which the number of cases saw a sharp decline compared to the previous day include Hanoi with a drop of 24, Danang with a decline of 24, and Phu Tho with a fall of 20.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 death toll has also witnessed a constant decline over recent times, with only two cases being confirmed over the past 24 hours, thereby taking the overall number of fatalities to 43,067

A further 4,723 COVID-19 cases were declared free from the virus on May 15, duly bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,359,763.

As of May 15, the country had injected more than 217 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, including over 2.54 million first shots for children between the ages of five and 11 years old.

After one month of issuing electronic vaccine passports, by May 15 approximately 14 million Vietnamese people had been given their vaccine passports.

According to details given by the Information Technology Department under the Ministry of Health, vaccine passports are being displayed on the electronic health book application, PC-COVID, or through the search page that the Ministry of Health is in the process of developing, a feature which will be announced in the near future.

It also requested that localities and medical facilities nationwide complete the process of "cleaning" of COVID-19 vaccine vaccination data before June 1, with the goal of helping to authenticate citizens' electronic vaccine passports.
