Daily COVID-19 death toll hits six-month record low in HCM City
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City recorded 20 COVID-19 related deaths on January 17, the lowest figure over the past six months.
The daily number of COVID-19 deaths has decreased dramatically over the past months, from more than 300 in August 2021 to dozens these days.
The outbreak in the city has improved significantly in recent times as the number of patients discharged from hospital continued to exceed the number of hospitalizations, said Pham Duc Hai, deputy head of the HCM City Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and Economic Recovery.
COVID-19 prevention and treatment measures, including vaccinations, have paid off, contributing to reducing the numbers of infections, hospitalisations and deaths, he said.
Currently the city is treating 5,061 patients, of whom 89 are children under 16 years old, 319 critically ill patients on ventilators, and 18 patients receiving ECMO intervention.
The city has so far recorded more than 20,000 COVID-19 deaths, or nearly two thirds of the country’s total. It has also confirmed 11 Omicron cases, including six recoveries.
