Da Nang sees sharp rise in dengue fever cases
VOV.VN - The central city of Da Nang is facing a growing threat of tropical disease outbreaks amid an increasing number of dengue fever infections detected throughout the city.
As many as 1,109 infections have been registered in the central city between January and early May, with more of them recorded in hostels and dormitories where workers and students stay.
During the reviewed period, a total of 96 new hotspots of the mosquito-borne viral disease have been identified.
Many parents delay taking their children to the hospital, leading to severe complications and high fatality rates, warned doctors. Common symptoms such as high temperatures, headache, vomiting, pain in muscles and joints, and rash typically begin three to 14 days after the initial infection.
Doctors therefore advise parents to take their children suffering from high temperatures for three days to health facilities in order to swiftly detect the disease and allow them to receive proper medical care, so as to help mitigate severe complications and reduce the fatality rate.
Local residents are also encouraged to clear up any grassy or bushy areas located near to their homes, and remove sources of standing water which can develop into breeding grounds for mosquitos.
The authorities of Da Nang also request that district-level preventive medicine centres spray anti-mosquito chemicals at newly-detected hotspots in a bid to prevent the further spread of the disease among the local population.
