COVID-19: Vietnam records 49 locally transmitted cases on Feb. 12 afternoon
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed 53 coronavirus cases on February 12 afternoon, including 49 community infections in two localities.
Hai Duong province, the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot, reported 47 cases alone, including 43 F1 cases (those having close contact with COVID-19 patients) and four cases detected in the blockade zone.
Ho Chi Minh City recorded two cases linked to the ongoing coronavirus hotspot at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The latest coronavirus outbreak has spread to 13 cities and provinces across the country since the virus recurred late last month.
Of the 604 newly detected cases, 430 are in Hai Duong, a gateway to Hanoi capital. It is followed by Quang Ninh province (59), HCM City 36, Hanoi (3), and Gia Lai (27).
Other localities such as Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Dien Bien, Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Hoa Binh, Ha Giang and Hai Phong, recorded less than 10 each.
Meanwhile, four imported cases, including an American, a Taiwanese and a Korean, were also announced on the same day. They all came to Vietnam from the US, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea on different flights and were placed in quarantine upon their arrival.
The four tested positive for the virus on February 12 and were transferred to HCM City’s Cu Chi field hospital for medical surveillance and treatment.
Currently, nearly 130,000 people who came into contact with COVID-19 patients or returned from epidemic hit countries have been placed in quarantine for medical surveillance.
Vietnamese people are celebrating a 7-day long lunar New Year break. The Ministry of Health has encouraged people to strictly follow medical recommendations, including wearing face masks and avoiding large gatherings, in an effort to contain the fresh outbreak.
