COVID-19: Vietnam confirms no fresh case, total stands at 1,016

VOV.VN - The total number of coronavirus cases in Vietnam remains at 1,016 with no more new patients reported on August 24 morning, according to the Ministry of Health.

Since the late July recurrence of the biggest coronavirus hotspot in central Vietnam, the nation has recorded 674 cases of local transmission.

Of the total infections confirmed so far, 342 are imported and quarantined upon arrival, and 534 are related to the outbreak in Da Nang since July 25.

One day earlier, an additional five people diagnosed with the novel coronavirus were released from hospital, raising the country’s tally of recoveries to 568.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, among the positive cases in treatment, a total of 116 have tested negative to SARS-CoV-2 that causes the disease at least once or multiple times.

With the latest update, the country's coronavirus tally remains at 1,016, with 568 having fully recovered from the virus, and 27 having died of various chronic conditions and COVID-19 related complications, including one fatality confirmed on August 23.

Statistically, a total of 70,620 people coming into close contact and returning from epidemic-hit areas are being kept in quarantine for health monitoring, of whom more than 1,990 are being put in concentrated isolation at hospitals. The remaining cases are undergoing self-isolation at home or at places of residence.

Meanwhile, the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in the central province of Quang Ngai has yet to decide to ease social distancing measures although the locality has gone 15 days without recording any single new case of COVID-19.

According to Dang Ngoc Dung, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, the province will relax social distancing measures until more than 7,130 people returning to Quang Nam from Da Nang test negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
