COVID-19: Six more local infections confirmed in Hai Duong, Quang Ninh

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on the afternoon of February 23 reported that a further six local transmissions have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam, taking the overall number of positive novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to 2,401.

Five of the new patients have been detected in Hai Duong province, the epicentre of the latest outbreak, all of whom are F1 contacts that came into close contact with previously confirmed COVID-19 patients. The remaining one case has been found in the northern province of Quang Ninh which is also related to infected patients.

Since the resurgence of the virus in 13 cities and provinces, Hai Duong has recorded the highest number of locally-transmitted cases at 625, followed by its neighbor Quang Ninh at 61.

At present, the country has recorded 1,502 domestic cases, with the number of deaths related to the pandemic remaining unchanged at 35 and total recoveries at 1,717.

Among the patients currently undergoing treatment, a total of 163 cases have since tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at least once, with the majority recording several negative results.

Moreover, Ho Chi Minh City has begun the process of random COVID-19 tests in restaurants, with medical workers in the southern city taking samples from both customers and workers.

The tests at catering facilities are part of a random mass testing scheme launched by the HCMC Disease Control Center at the end of the Lunar New Year holidays on February 16.

Over the past week, more than 4,800 random samples were taken at airports, bus stations, and train stations, with roughly 3,800 samples producing negative results, with the remaining samples waiting for their results.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has urged people to remain proactive in pandemic prevention and control efforts by continuing to wear face masks when going out to public spaces, disinfecting frequently, maintaining a safe distance from others, refraining from mass gatherings, and doing medical declarations.
