COVID-19: One imported case boosts overall infections to 2,571

VOV.VN - A 49 year-old Vietnamese citizen was confirmed positive for the SARS-CoV2-virus after entering Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Health said on March 19 afternoon.

The patient was immediately quarantined upon entry after his test result was positive for the virus on March 17. He is currently is undergoing COVID-19 treatment at Cu Chi field hospital.

With the latest coronavirus case, the national infection count gone up to 2,571, including 1,601 local infections and 970 imported cases.

Vietnam has ordered 30 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine with the country set to receive over five million additional AstraZeneca vaccine doses through global access mechanism COVAX, UNICEF, and other contracts by April. In total, the nation is anticipated to receive roughly 60 million AstraZeneca doses this year.

Furthermore, negotiations with other vaccine manufacturers in the United States, Russia, and other countries are underway, while the nation is also in the process of developing its own COVID-19 vaccines. Indeed, one locally-produced vaccine began its second phase of human trials last month, with another starting its first phase on March 15.

The majority of the 13 affected localities have gone many days without any local transmission since the resurgence of the virus on January 28.
