VOV.VN - A 42-year-old Vietnamese man in the northern province of Thanh Hoa was confirmed positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Ministry of Health on the morning of May 7.

The latest patient was identified as F1 contact of an infected Chinese expert who was isolated upon entry in Yen Bai province. He is currently being placed in quarantine to undergo treatment at the Central Hospital for Tropical Disease in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district after his second test result came back positive for the virus on May 6.

The new case boosted the national infection tally to 3,091, including 1,691 locally-infected cases and 1,400 imported ones.

In the latest wave of coronavirus outbreaks from April 27, a total 121 local infections have been found in the nation. A total of 2,560 coronavirus patients have been declared to be clear of the virus, and 74 cases receiving treatment have tested negative for the coronavirus at least one time or more.

Meanwhile, 40,736 people are being quarantined across the country after having close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients or returning home from pandemic-hit regions.

As many as 15 localities have registered positive COVID-19 cases, including Hanoi, Da Nang, HCM City and the provinces of Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Quang Nam, Dong Nai, Hai Duong, Yen Bai, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Quang Ngai, and Thanh Hoa.

The country has vaccinated over 747,820 people against Covid-19 in 48 localities, mainly frontline workers of the COVID-19 fight.

Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, many localities nationwide have applied a score of COVID-19 response measures such as letting students stay home to study online, suspending non-essential services and putting all tourism services on hold at major attractions.
