COVID-19: Daily count rises to 8,390 cases, 388 more deaths

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed an additional 3,241 new locally acquired coronavirus cases during the past 12 hours, raising its daily caseload to 8,390, while 388 more fatalities have been recorded, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported on August 10 evening.

Of the newly detected cases, 453 cases were documented in the community through random testing or test screening at healthcare facilities, while the rest tested positive in quarantine or lockdown areas, the MoH said in its 06.00pm coronavirus update.

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, led cities and provinces in infection numbers, registering 1,466. It was followed by Long An 577, Dong Nai 378, Dong Thap 99 and Can Tho 83, all in the south.

In the central region, Nghe An surprisingly recorded 128 new cases, followed by Da Nang 74, Gia Lai 37, Dak Lak 36, Phu Yen 24, Lam Dong 18, and Dak Nong 17.  

Elsewhere, the past 12 hours saw 60 positive cases logged in Hanoi, 12 in Lao Cai, 7 in Hai Duong, 4 in Thai Binh, 2 each in Son Lan and Bac Giang and on in Nam Dinh.

Overall, Vietnam has confirmed 8,390 new cases during the past 24 hours, with HCM City recording 3,956 cases and Binh Duong 1,325. 

Data from the Ministry of Health (MoH) show as of 06.00 pm on August 10 Vietnam has documented 224,198 new locally transmitted cases following virus resurgence in late April and 228,135 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020.

As many as 80,348 patients have recovered from the disease, including 4,428 cases discharged from hospital on August 10.

The same day, the MoH announced 388 more COVID-19 deaths in 13 cities and provinces. HCM City confirmed 308 cases, while Binh Duong reported 44 cases.
