COVID-19: Da Nang locks down 2 markets over suspected cases

VOV.VN - Da Nang City, the epicenter of the country’s largest coronavirus outbreak, has blockaded two wet markets in Thanh Khe district after three traders first tested positive for the virus.

A trader at Tan Lap market and two others at Sieu Thi market were first diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus on August 21 evening and the results were awaiting confirmation from the Ministry of Health.

Local authorities immediately mobilized relevant forces to erect barriers surrounding the two markets at night and disinfect them the following day.

The Da Nang Municipal Department of Health called on those who had contact with the three suspected cases to phone the local medical agency for preventive measures.

Many residents living near the two markets closed their shops and stayed indoors.

“I was a bit worried after hearing about a suspected case at Tan Lap market this morning,” Hao, a resident living near the market. “My family hopes to be tested very soon.”

Many people said they were not surprised when the administration shut the two markets because the outbreak in Da Nang has not been stamped out completely.

“Temporarily shutting the two markets is a necessary step. It is important now that relevant forces soon disinfect the markets and conduct tests to ease people’s worries,” said another local resident living near one of the two affected markets.

Da Nang is considered the country’s largest coronavirus outbreak. It has registered 369 cases since the virus recurred on July 25. Of the total, 21 have died.
