COVID-19: An imported case from UK raises Vietnam’s tally to 1,098
VOV.VN - A female Vietnamese student returning from the United Kingdom has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the country’s tally of coronavirus infections to 1,098, the Ministry of Health said on October 6.
The 26-year-old student took flight VN0054 from London (the UK) to Vietnam on October 3. She was quarantined as soon as she landed at Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh province.
The student showed virus symptoms such as a fever and a sore throat the following day and was immediately sent for a COVID-19 test.
She tested positive on October 5 by the Hai Duong provincial Centre of Disease Control and the result was confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
The patient was then transferred to the Hai Duong Hospital of Tropical Diseases for medical surveillance and treatment.
As of 18.00hrs October 6, Vietnam has recorded a total of 1,098 COVID-19 patients, of whom 1,023 have fully recovered from the disease. It has gone through 34 consecutive days without new cases detected in the community.
So far 35 patients have died of COVID-19 and severely related illnesses such as chronic renal failure, hypertension, blood cancer, diabetes, pneumonia and multi-organ failure.
