COVID-19: 90 more cases recorded in Vietnam, 63 cases in HCM City alone
VOV.VN - An additional 90 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in six Vietnamese localities over six hours, including 63 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Of the total, 88 cases were locally acquired and two imported infections, said the MoH said in its 12.00am COVID-19 update on June 21.
Ho Chi Minh City, which has emerged as the country’s second worst hit locality, recorded 63 cases, with 24 cases linked to the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district.
The city has launched the largest-ever vaccination campaign, aiming to inoculate two thirds of its population this year, in order to reach herd immunity.
Elsewhere, 16 more cases were documented in Bac Giang, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, four in Nghe An, three in Bac Ninh, and two in Ha Tinh.
Meanwhile, two Vietnamese nationals returning to the homeland via Moc Bai International Border Gate in Tay Ninh province also tested positive for the virus.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread to 41 cities and provinces across the country since its resurgence in late April, with more than 10,000 people infected.
Thirty-one people have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses during the period.
Overall, Vietnam has confirmed 13,348 positive cases, including 66 deaths, since the virus attacked the country in late January 2020.
As many as 5,229 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
