COVID-19: 89 more cases recorded in Vietnam, 38th locality reports infection
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed an additional 89 locally transmitted coronavirus cases in 10 localities across the country over six hours, with Dong Thap, a locality in southern Vietnam, recording the first infection.
Bac Giang, the country’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, recorded the largest number of cases, 47, mostly in quarantine and lockdown areas linked to the outbreaks at industrial parks.
It was followed by Ho Chi Minh City (19), Bac Ninh (10), Lang Son (4), Hanoi (2), Ha Nam (2), Long An (2), Dong Thap (1), Tra Vinh (1), and Vinh Phuc (1).
All new cases in HCM City were closely tied to the outbreak at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district, making it the largest-ever COVID-19 hotspot in the city.
More than 200 cases have been documented since the first person tested positive at the religious sect.
Meanwhile, Dong Thap province, a locality in the Mekong Delta, reported the first infection, becoming the latest COVID-19 hit locality in Vietnam.
The new cases raised the national count of local infections during the past 24 hours to 250.
As of 06.00pm on June 1, Vietnam has confirmed 4,495 local cases in 38 cities and provinces nationwide since the emergence of the virus in late April. Bac Giang is the worst-hit locality, recording nearly 2,600 cases alone.
