COVID-19: 4,254 new cases recorded, daily count rises to 7,455

VOV.VN - An additional 4,254 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam during the past 12 hours, raising its daily caseload to 7,455, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Of the newly infected cases, 4,247 were locally acquired, mostly in southern localities, and seven cases were reported upon returning from overseas, said the MoH in its 06.00pm coronavirus update. 

About 1,368 cases were detected in the community through random testing or test screening at healthcare facilities, and the rest were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas.

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, led all cities and provinces in infection numbers, registering 2,267 cases.

It was followed by Binh Duong 453, Long An 445, Dong Nai 191, Ba Ria – Vung Tau 132 and Can Tho 102, all in the south.

The past 12 hours saw Khanh Hoa province in the central region record 286 cases, a record high figure, while Hanoi capital also topped northern localities, logging 113 cases.

Earlier on the morning of the same day, the MoH confirmed 3,198 locally acquired and three imported infections, raising Vietnam’s 24-hour caseload to 7,455.

Data from the MoH show that during the past 24 hours, HCM City recorded 4,264 locally acquired infections, followed by Binh Duong 949, Long An 445, Dong Nai 380, and Can Tho 221. All these localities are in the south.

As of 06.00 pm on August 2 Vietnam has confirmed 157,919 new locally transmitted cases following the resurgence of the virus in late April and 161,761 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020.

As many as 46,965 patients have recovered from the disease, including 3,808 cases announced on August 2.

Also on August 2, the MoH announced 389 more COVID-19 related deaths recorded in four localities in two weeks from July 17 to August 2. HCM City alone registered 354 fatalities.
