COVID-19: 235 more cases recorded in 24 hours, cases keep rising in hotspots
VOV.VN - Vietnam has logged an additional 235 COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, with 90% of the caseload recorded in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, the country’s two largest coronavirus hotspots.
In its 06.00pm COVID-19 update, the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced a further 115 cases, including 64 in Bac Ninh, 39 in Bac Giang, nine in Hanoi, two in Hai Duong and one in Thai Nguyen.
Most of the patients in Bac Ninh tested positive during their stay in quarantine, while positive cases in Bac Giang were detected in lockdown areas closely linked to outbreaks at industrial parks.
Earlier, the MoH announced 40 more cases at noon and 80 more in the morning of the same day.
Vietnam has confirmed 3,027 locally transmitted cases in 30 cities and provinces across the country since the virus recurred in late April.
Bac Giang is the hardest hit locality recording more than 1,500 new cases, followed by Bac Ninh (more than 600 cases).
The daily caseload has kept rising over the past few days due to the extensive testing campaign which is underway in Bac Giang. Most of the cases have been detected in quarantine or lockdown areas, mainly in Viet Yen district which is home to a raft of industrial parks.
The number of new infections is expected not to skyrocket in the coming days as people of the high-risk group have already been tested. Other community infections have been found in lockdown areas.
During an urgent meeting in Hanoi on May 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Health, and Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces to pool all resources to keep the latest outbreaks in check.
