COVID-19: 155 new cases confirmed, daily infection tally at 423
VOV.VN - The nation reported a total of 423 new novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on June 16, including 414 domestic infections and 9 imported ones, according to details provided by the Ministry of Health.
Among the 414 locally-transmitted cases, 91 were confirmed during the morning, with 174 at midday, and 149 during the afternoon.
All of the cases detected in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces are either linked with outbreaks among the community or industrial parks, or involve individuals who came into contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients.
The cases detected in Ho Chi Minh City are closely associated with the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases which has been recently put into lockdown, a major Christian mission which had a strong of COVID-19 infections, and those who came into close contact with infected patients.
By June 14 the country had documented 11,635 COVID-19 cases, including 9,980 local infections and 1,655 imported ones. Indeed, the number of cases recorded since the fourth wave of the pandemic hit the nation on April 27 now stands at 8,410.
Of the patients still under treatment at medical facilities, 475 have since tested negative with COVID-19 at least once or several times, while the current death toll remains at 61.
A further 47 COVID-19 patients were declared free from the virus, boosting the total recoveries to 4,590
Most notably, Ho Chi Minh City is emerging as one of the country’s most significant COVID-19 hotspots, with a growing number of local infections being recorded in recent times.
June 16 alone saw the southern metropolis detect 99 community cases, taking its overall tally in the new wave to 1,060.
However, 24 localities have now gone 14 days without recording any fresh local infections.
