VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed 115 locally acquired and eight imported coronavirus cases in 14 cities and provinces across the country during the past six hours, raising the national daily count to 175.
About 108 out of 115 local infections were detected in quarantine or lockdown areas, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update on June 26.
Ho Chi Minh City, the busiest and most populous city in Vietnam took the lead with 58 cases. It was followed by Nghe An (11), Phu Yen (10), Dong Thap (8), Da Nang (7), Quang Ngai (6), Bac Giang (5), Binh Duong (5), Binh Thuan (2), Hanoi (2), and Bac Ninh (1).
Meanwhile, eight people entering Vietnam via air and land borders tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Earlier, the MoH announced 37 new cases at noon and 13 more cases in the morning of the same day.
HCM City is currently the epicenter of the fresh outbreak in southern Vietnam. The hotspot has logged more than 3,000 cases in the community in less than two months since the resurgence of the virus.
During a fact-finding trip to HCM City on June 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that top priority must now be given to the city’s COVID-19 fight. He asked the city to speed up its testing campaign, tighten epidemic prevention and control measures in crowded areas and ramp up its vaccination campaign.
Vietnam has documented 11,945 COVID-19 cases, including 39 deaths, following the resurgence of the virus in late April.
Overall, it has recorded a total of 15,275 cases, including 74 deaths, since the virus attacked the country in January 2020.
Some 188 patients were discharged from hospital on June 26, raising the total number of recoveries to 6,137.
