Cold air wave brings rain to north, heat wave continues in south

VOV.VN - A cold air wave is heading towards Northern Vietnam and is expected to affect the region on April 24, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The cold front is forecast to hit some border localities in northern highlands on April 24 night and then spread across the north-eastern and north-central localities on the following day.

The cold air wave will bring rain to the highland and lowland areas, with rainfall up to 70mm to be recorded in some parts of the region on April 24-25.

It will help break a heat wave that has baked north-western localities over the past few days with daytime temperatures ranging between 36 and 41 degrees Celsius.

The new cold spell is expected to cause temperatures to drop to a low of 19 degrees Celsius in the highlands and 20 degrees Celsius in the lowlands, according to meteorologists.

The weather experts warned that the torrential rain accompanied by strong winds may cause damage to residential property, rice and subsidiary crops, as well as flooding in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, the heat wave that hit the southern region has yet to show signs of abating. The heat wave is forecast to last for several days more, with daytime temperatures hovering at between 35-37 degrees Celsius or more.
