Coast Guard Region 2 Command effectively handles maritime violations

In 2025, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command has strengthened patrol and surveillance operations through new methods and improved mastery of modern weapons and technical equipment, significantly enhancing its capacity to safeguard sovereignty, as well as national security and maritime interests.

The unit deployed 223 ship and boat sorties, covering more than 120,000 safe nautical miles. It detected, prevented and handled nearly 200 cases of violations of maritime law, dismantled eight major drug-related rings, and took action against 41 vessel owners for illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The command also carried out 22 programmes in support of fishermen and 16 activities targeting ethnic and religious communities. More than 1,555 gift packages worth a total of VND3.5 billion (over US$132,600) were presented to fishermen and disadvantaged households.

The unit continued to step up public communication on legal regulations, especially on preventing IUU fishing, reaching more than 8,150 residents and fishermen. It also coordinated with the Information and Education and Mass Mobilisation Boards of five provincial and municipal Party Committees in the central region to quickly deploy working groups supporting disaster response and post-storm recovery efforts.

Major General Tran Quang Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, said the unit has maintained close coordination with relevant forces, regularly exchanged information and closely monitored developments at sea to promptly provide advice and effectively handle arising incidents, especially those related to safeguarding maritime sovereignty and national security and interests.
