Centrally-run hospital cordoned off after a COVID-19 case found

VOV.VN - The management of Hanoi-based National Hospital of Tropical Diseases has decided to temporarily close the centrally-run hospital to visitors after a doctor was diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The decision was signed on May 5 by Dr Dao Ngoc Thach, director of the hospital which is run by the Ministry of Health.

The director requested the hospital’s departments to urgently complete the sampling for all employees, trainees, patients and their family members at its two branches.

The hospital suspended receiving patients for inpatient treatment at both branches, starting at 08.00am on May 5 until further notice.

All people who have visited the hospital for examination and treatment over the past 15 days were required to show up for contact tracing and testing.

Hanoi Mayor Chu Ngoc Anh and officials of the Ministry of Health on May 5 inspected COVID-19 prevention work at the hospital.

“We agreed with the Ministry of Health to immediately cordon off the two branches of the hospital in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of frontline healthcare workers,” Anh told local media outlets.

He said he will discuss with the Ministry of Health ways to provide necessary equipment and daily necessities for the hospital during the quarantine period.

A doctor of National Hospital for Tropical Diseases was diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus on May 4. The doctor, who lives in Ba Dinh district, was said to have travelled to many places and met friends before testing positive.

National Hospital for Tropical Diseases is one of the leading medical centres that has received and treated COVID-19 patients in Vietnam for more than a year since the virus was reported in January 2020.
