CDC Chairman supports pay raise for politicians
Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) Chairman Meechai Ruchupan voiced his support for a monthly income raise for politicians, saying it would prevent corruption.
The CDC Chairman’s comment came after a recent proposal by the sub-committee on political reform of the National Reform Steering Assembly to increase politicians’ salaries. Despite widespread opposition, Mr. Meechai said the raise would encourage good politicians to stay honest.
He added Thai politicians currently receive relatively low salaries compared to their foreign counterparts. Giving them a raise, he further stated, would be appropriate for their roles and responsibilities.
