Can Tho ramps up all-around co-operation with Japanese prefecture
VOV.VN - Nguyen Thuc Hien, vice chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, has expressed a desire to see the Japanese prefecture of Hiroshima and Can Tho continue to co-operate across multiple fields, especially in terms of environmental protection and adapting to the impact of climate change.
Upon addressing an online meeting held between the People's Committee of Can Tho and representatives from Hiroshima, Hien outlined his hopes of broader co-operation which could serve to deepen the extensive strategic partnership between both sides, as well as friendship ties and co-operation between Can Tho and Japanese partners.
Provinces throughout the Mekong Delta, including Can Tho, are highly interested in the environment, including the treatment of wastewater and waste as part of the agricultural production process, meaning that the southern city requires technical help from Hiroshima in order to solve this issue.
Furthermore, amid many Japanese firms moving to shift investment capital flows to Southeast Asia, Can Tho is hopeful of attracting Japanese investors who can research and intensify investment in potential areas, such as seafood processing technology, information technology, tourism, and energy.
Thi Minh Thao, deputy director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Cao, said the southern city wishes to initiate more exchanges and co-operation with Hiroshima prefecture in relation to environmental monitoring. This is along with warnings of saltwater intrusion and increasing adaptation to climate change, especially through the disposal of closed solid waste landfills.
Can Tho therefore hopes that Hiroshima prefecture will continue considering and implementing activities related to the "low-carbon socialization" model, whilst intensifying exchange activities and promoting innovation as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Municipal representatives used the online meeting to express their desire to receive Hiroshima's help in circulating technology aimed at optimising the sources of raw materials and by-products of the seafood industry, thereby partly reducing pollution and the overall quantity of greenhouse gas emissions.
Can Tho also strong desires greater co-operation with Japanese language centres to train Japanese language skills in the city as a way of creating more favourable conditions for investment activities by Japanese businesses.
