Cambodia requested to clarify Vietnamese death outside Bavet casino

VOV.VN - Vietnam on September 8 requested Cambodia to look into the murder of a Vietnamese citizen outside a casino in its southwestern locality in late August.

The killing of the Vietnamese national occurred outside Casino 67 in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province on August 26.

The police reported the 34-year-old victim named Duong was a Vietnamese chef, who was assaulted with sticks by a group of people in front of the casino in Bavet.

CCTV footage shows Duong was beaten to death on the sidewalk where the assault took place.

Cambodia authorities said the murderers were also Vietnamese and they fled immediately after committing the crime.

At a regular press briefing on September 8, deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said Vietnam has contacted relevant Cambodian agencies to request clarification and investigations are underway.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia has contacted the bereaved family to assist in bringing the victim’s body back home.
