Border guards, police clear landslides and assist residents in northern provinces
VOV.VN - Border guards and local police in the northern mountainous provinces of Son La and Lao Cai have promptly mobilized personnel to clear landslide-blocked roads and evacuate residents to safe areas following heavy downpours on August 1.
In Son La province, continuous heavy rain triggered a landslide measuring approximately 100 cubic meters of earth and rock onto provincial road 103 in Yen Son commune, blocking the route leading to the Na Cai auxiliary border gate.
The Chieng On Border Guard Station deployed 12 officers and soldiers to coordinate with local military and militia forces, successfully clearing the road by 10 a.m. to restore traffic and facilitate local travel and trade.
Meanwhile, in Lao Cai province's Bat Xat District, torrential rain caused localized flooding and a landslide behind the homes of two families in Ban Vai Village, directly threatening the safety of nine residents.
Local police mobilized 18 officers, alongside grassroots security forces and authorities, to evacuate the residents and their belongings to safety, while also cordoning off flooded spillways and regulating traffic to prevent accidents.
Meteorological agencies have warned that heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to continue across the region, posing high risks of flash floods and landslides in sloping areas, riverbanks, and low-lying zones, prompting local authorities and residents to maintain close vigilance and proactive disaster preparedness.
