Australia offers AUD13.8 million to support vocational education

VOV.VN - The Australian Government has agreed to provide Vietnam with an additional AUD13.8 million for the next phase of the Vietnam Australia Human Resource Development program (Aus4Skills) to help improve vocational training quality.

The Australian Embassy in Hanoi and the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs announced the 2021-2025 phase in Hanoi on April 14.

The past four years has seen Aus4Skills promote linkages between logistics businesses and vocational training facilities in Vietnam, providing graduates with skills that are up to the requirements of employers operating in the logistics sector.

Since 2017, more than 5,300 students from several vocational training institutions have benefited from improved teaching, curriculum and management through the Aus4Skill program. Their admission rates to logistics-related courses have witnessed eight-fold increase, and graduates have been much sought after by employers.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh underscored the importance of the logistics sector to the country’s economy development, noting that a skilled workforce represents the key to the general development of the sector.

Thanh also expressed his belief that the launch of the second phase of the Vocational Education Support Project of the Aus4Skills programme is a step forward fulfilling the two sides’ common vision of upskilling the workforce in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Robyn Mudie reiterated Australia’s commitment to enhancing the skills of the local workforce, which she said will make Vietnamese industries remain competitive whilst also accelerating the nation’s economic growth as it moves into the post-pandemic recovery period.

Australia is willing to share its experience in building a dynamic, business-led vocational education system through the Aus4Skills programme, she said.

Aus4Skills is an Australian funded programme which aims to support Vietnam in accessing and using high-level professional and technical knowledge skills, as well as competencies to contribute to its sustainable economic and social development.
