Animal trafficker caught in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - Police operating in Binh Tan district of Ho Chi Minh City have arrested an individual who is suspected of illegally transporting a pangolin, an animal which is on the list of endangered rare species and therefore banned from being traded, according to Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV).

The suspect was detected after attempting to sell a pangolin on Facebook for VND3.5 million. In addition, the animal trafficker is known to have sold other wild animals through social media in the past, including monkeys, wild cats, and pangolins.

Vu Thi Quyen, director of ENV, said approximately 2,400 animal trafficking cases have involved social media, including Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, with 1,314 violated cases recorded during the first six months of the year.

 The case is currently under further investigation.
