Additional 26,379 new infections recorded across 58 localities nationwide

VOV.VN - A further 26,379 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Ministry of Health on February 13, bringing the national tally since the start of the pandemic to over 2.5 million.

Of the new cases, 18,269 were found in the community and 7 were imported.

An additional 84 casualties were also confirmed during the past 24 hours, raising the country’s death toll to 38,946 or around 1.5% of all infections.

Hanoi capital tops the daily case list with 2,940 new cases, trailed by Hai Duong (1,906) and Nam Dinh (1,894).

A total of 7,815 COVID-19 patients were announced recovered on the same day, taking the total number of recovered cases to 2,226,754.

More than 185.73 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far, including over 79.2 million being the first dose, more than 74.7 million the second, and over 31.7 the third.

Vietnam has so far detected 197 COVID-19 infections related to the Omicron variant of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City with 97 cases.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Health has been urged to urgently finalize and issue guidelines on COVID-19 treatment protocols for people under 18 years old, especially children under 12.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Information and Communications, agencies and localities are required step up communication to get the cooperation of families, parents and teachers in ensuring safety for children.

The overall risk of children becoming severely ill or dying from COVID is extremely low, according to health experts.

The mortality rate for Vietnamese under 17 who are infected is about 0.34% (around 130 children) of the total number of COVID-related fatalities in Vietnam.
