In addition, there are a further 92 other severe cases who require oxygen and nine people using non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
According to figures given by the Treatment Subcommittee, approximately 1,377, equivalent to 55.1% of COVID-19 patients, are asymptomatic, while 923 people, equal to 36.1%, have shown mild clinical manifestations.
To date the nation has successfully cured 2,814 patients of COVID-19, whilst 44 cases have died from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the majority of whom had been suffering from a number of serious underlying conditions.
Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long has stated that the two SARS-CoV-2 variants now common among the latest Vietnamese cases are B.1.1.7, which originates from the UK, and B.1.617.2, which was first detected in India.
The strain in the UK has a transmission rate which is 1.7 times higher than previous strains, Minister Long noted, adding that the strain first discovered in India also has a highly fast and strong transmission rate.
