54 COVID-19 cases recorded at HCM City monastery

VOV.VN - Local authorities of Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap district have moved to cordon off a monastery for contact tracing and genome sequencing after 54 people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus there.

The disease has broken out at the monastery after a student living there was diagnosed with the virus, said Nguyen Tri Dung, head of the Go Cap district administration.

Subsequent tests showed a total of 53 students and a monk there had contracted the virus, he said, adding that they are now in stable health condition.

The health sector also randomly sampled 10 F0 cases for gene sequencing and screening to see if they had been exposed to the Omicron variant.

HCM City has seen the number of COVID-19 infections rise in recent times. The HCM City Centre for Disease Control reported that nearly 3,000 cases have been detected in the locality in the past week, representing a three-fold increase compared to the previous week.

In addition, the number of hospitalizations has been on the rise slightly.

The city has warned local people to strictly follow COVID-19 recommendations by the Ministry of Health, including wearing face masks, washing hands with sanitizer and avoiding large gatherings in public places.
