32 rescued, search ongoing for missing fishermen off Da Nang
VOV.VN - The Da Nang City People's Committee reported on August 29 that rescue forces have saved 32 fishermen from a missing local squid fishing vessel, with search operations underway for the remaining crew members.
The 23.9-meter vessel, captained by 47-year-old Huynh Van Tri, departed An Hoa port on July 29 carrying 49 crew members.
The Office of the Da Nang Steering Committee for Civil Defence received notification of its loss of contact on August 26, after its vessel monitoring system recorded its final location on August 25 about 540 nautical miles southeast of Da Nang's Son Tra Peninsula and 35 nautical miles west of An Bang Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago amid rough seas.
By 1:25 p.m. on August 28, search forces located and pulled 32 fishermen from the water. A Coast Guard vessel subsequently took on board the rescued crew members to transport them to Truong Sa Lon Island for special medical care as directed by the Da Nang People's Committee.
Search operations continue at the scene, with Coast Guard, Navy, and Border Guard forces deployed alongside local fishing vessels operating nearby to locate the missing crew.
The Da Nang Steering Committee for Civil Defence instructed Border Guard forces to coordinate with local agencies and families to monitor the situation, while calling on vessels operating nearby to assist in searching for the missing fishermen.
