VOV.VN - The Smart City Asia 2023 officially opened in Ho Chi Minh City on April 13, attracting the participation of 300 local and foreign firms showcasing an array of technological products across 400 pavilions.

In his opening speech, Phan Van Mai, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasised that the fair is expected to contribute to accelerating the city’s digital transformation and provide an ideal venue for both local and foreign experts to share experience in the field, aiming to turn the southern hub into a smart city.

Mai revealed that Ho Chi Minh City has recently deployed a number of key programmes and projects on digital transformation and smart cities in order to design information technology and communication products, and develop the local startup ecosystem and e-commerce platforms.

Currently, the southern metropolis ranks among the top 200 most dynamic ecosystems globally and the third in terms of national digital transformation last year, while the its digital economy also accounts for 15.38% of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), surpassing the set target of 15%.

He expressed his hope that the fair would put forth a number of solutions to urgent problems facing major big cities such as traffic management, environmental protection, education, and health care to ensure a safe and secure environment for local people.

A series of networking activities, exhibitions, and seminars are scheduled to take place during the three-day event.
