24-hour infection tally reaches 3,193 across 48 localities

VOV.VN - The nation registered 3,193 additional COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours to six p.m on October 17, with most of the cases detected in Ho Chi Minh City with 1,059, Binh Duong with 537, and Dong Nai with 517, according to the Ministry of Health.

The national tally since the beginning of the pandemic now numbers 859,372, of which 789,027 patients have been declared free from the disease.

Furthermore, a total of 63 deaths were added to the national database on October 17, with HCM City and its neighbour Binh Duong recording the highest number at 38, and 13, respectively.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths so far stands at 21,194, representing roughly 2.4% of all infections.

The same day, 1,340 COVID-19 patients were also announced to have recovered from the virus, thereby bringing the total number of recovered cases to 791,844.

As of October 16 the country had injected over 61.9.2 million vaccine doses, with more than 17.8 million people now being fully inoculated throughout the nation.

Elsewhere Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital in Hanoi is allowed to resume medical examination and treatment in a new normal from 0 a.m on October 18, according to a dispatch issued by the Ministry of Health.

The hospital is required to continue reinforcing anti-pandemic measures set out by the Ministry of Health.

It detected a COVID-19 patient within its vicinity on September 30 and the figure had increased to 34, without recording fatalities .

Upon the detection of the first case on September 30, the hospital reported the detection of 34 active COVID-19 cases, while rolling out a score of prevention and control measures at the highest level and halted regular medical checkups and treatment.
