24-hour COVID-19 count stands at over 1,580 new cases

VOV.VN - Health authorities confirmed the detection of a further 1,587 fresh COVID-19 infections on May 20 across 51 cities and provinces nationwide, representing a fall of 128 from the previous day, including 1,380 local cases.

Hanoi continued lead the way with the highest number of infections with 373 cases, trailed by Phu Tho with 102 and Vinh Phuc with 92.

A further two fatalities were also confirmed over the past 24 hours, thereby raising the death toll to 43,075 since the start of the pandemic.

Furthermore, the Health Ministry also announced an additional 7,151 recoveries on the same day, thereby bringing the total number of recovered cases to more than 9.39 million.

Compared with the rest of Asia, the total number of deaths ranks sixth out of 49, coming third in ASEAN, whilst the death rate per 1 million people is 25th out of 49 Asian countries and territories, whilst being fourth in ASEAN.

The average number of new infections recorded over the past week is now at 1,708 daily cases nationwide.

On May 19, the entire country injected 658,999 COVID-19 vaccine doses to push up the total number of administered doses to over 218.7 million, including more than 198.1 million people aged 18 and over.
