22-year-old girl dies of COVID-19 in Vietnam
VOV.VN - A 22-year-old girl hailing from Phu Tho province has died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health announced on May 28.
The girl who suffered from bone marrow failure had been treated at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion before she was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
She tested positive on May 5 and had since received intensive treatment with antibiotics, mechanical ventilation and blood transfusion.
However, the patient did not respond well to the given treatment regime and died late on May 27.
Doctors said the patient died of COVID-19, septic shock, blood fungal infection, and bone marrow failure.
This is the 12th COVID-19 death in Vietnam during the current fourth COVID-19 wave and the 47th fatality since last year.
