21 more cases recorded in Bac Ninh coronavirus hotspot

VOV.VN - The northern province of Bac Ninh, a coronavirus hotspot close to Hanoi capital, announced on May 14 it has recorded 21 new cases during the past hours, raising the 10-day infection number in the locality to 162.

Bac Ninh did not specify details, but said Thuan Thanh district remains the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the province, hosting 144 out of 162 cases recorded.

Healthcare workers are taking nasal swabs of all those who got direct and indirect contacts with COVID-19 patients (F1 & F2 cases) in an extensive contact tracing and testing campaign in Thuan Thanh.

Tens of thousands of people have been tested for COVID-19, including 15,000 in Mao Dien commune of Thuan Thanh district, said local authorities.

The local health sector is ramping up the contact tracing and testing campaign at industrial parks (IPs) after a number of infections were detected at foreign-invested firms, including Samsung Electronics Vietnam, Johnson Health Vietnam, and Canon Vietnam in these IPs.

In the face of new outbreaks at IPs, Bac Ninh is randomly testing employees and servicemen at all IPs in the province, in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus.

Bac Ninh is home to 10 concentrated industrial parks and 26 industrial complexes employing approximately 450,000 workers.
