12,607 new positive cases detected, over 10,000 recover from COVID-19
VOV.VN - A total of 12,607 fresh cases of COVID-19, including 16 imported infections were recorded, while more than 10,000 patients were declared free from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, said the Ministry of Health in its August 31 update.
Ho Chi Minh City and the southern province of Binh Duong led the way in terms of infection numbers with 5,444 and 4,530, respectively.
The six localities recording several hundreds of local cases include Dong Nai (634), Long An (587), Tien Giang (214), Dong Thap (138), Da Nang (123), and Tay Ninh (118).
Hanoi capital reported the detection of a further 77 local cases, raising the overall number of infections during the fourth wave of outbreaks which first emerged in late April to more than 3,200, including more than half recorded within the local community and the rest being in quarantine.
The nation has now gone several consecutive days recording more than 12,000 domestic cases over a 24-hour period, thereby bringing the overall number of cases in the latest wave to over 457,800. Among them, more than 236,000 people have since recovered from the virus.
Vietnam has so far registered a total of nearly 463,000 positive cases since the pandemic hit the nation early last year, while the number of recoveries has risen to 238,860 after 10,044 patients were released from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
The country has now vaccinated around 19.96 million people, with more than 2.61 million individuals receiving two doses of the vaccine.
