The Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ) of Mexico has presented the Honourary Doctorate to Prof. Nguyen Tai Thu in recognition for his contributions to developing acupunctural therapy in Mexico.

UAZ President Alfredo Femat praised Prof Thu, who is also Director of the Vietnam Central Acupuncture Hospital (VCAH), and his colleagues for introducing different acupunctural techniques into detoxification work at the Ho Chi Minh Acupuncture Centre based at the university.

Over the last two years, the centre has given treatment to more than 30,000 patients and provided training for 20 local doctors who were recognised as the first masters in acupuncture in Mexico.

VCAH has also opened many medical clinics to aide poor people in the Mexico City and the northern city of Monterey and is planning to open additional detoxification centres in the north.
